Symbolic flowers
"Symbolic flowers" is a series of twelve paintings I started after an extended research about flower symbolism. I couldn't always get to the roots of why each flower is tied to a specific meaning, but I simply loved the positive message and wanted to share it. My medium of choice is acrylics but used in a unique way. I consider my work to be acrylics collage, since I incorporate elements of both. I use acrylic skins, opaque and transparent, as well as a variety of acrylic gels and mediums to collage my designs. My process involves a lot of steps and layering from having the initial sketch to getting to the finished work. I try to find the point of balance between the three main elements-monochromatic background, colorful flowers and detailed ink drawings. The circular elements in the background add to the feeling of motion I try to convey in each composition. The surface is cradled wooden board- canvas wouldn't withstand the heavily textural applications. My subject matter is realistic, but presented with an abstract, expressive twist. Even though I like to explore different themes, botanicals emerge as reoccurring subject of my paintings.
Rustic impressions
"Rustic impressions" is inspired by and dedicated to Arizona. I love the state I live in and my art is influenced by it. In this series I use actual dried flowers and leaves to create the frames for my paintings. After a lot of experimenting I found the best way to preserve the botanicals with the use of a variety of acrylic gels and mediums.
11x14
11x14 is a series of small works, exploring a variety of subject matter, unified by size and technique. Many of the paintings are made with acrylics and Stabilo pencil, combining drawing and painting. I often paint on acrylic skins and attach the paintings to wooden boards later, using archival acrylic mediums.
